I can now add yet one more experience to my (admittedly slim) dating repertoire: the Being Stood Up. Of course, in true Kim-fashion, I couldn't be stood up in a normal way---where I showed up and he didn't. No. The date was for his friends' wedding, so he had to go. Instead, he cleverly manipulated the situation to keep me from knowing where the church and the reception hall were located. I was given vague names and ever-changing times, and when I pressed for details, I found myself waiting...and waiting...and waiting, all dressed up with nowhere to go, until it was clear the wedding, and probably the reception, were long over.
There were other complications involved: an inability to reach me on my cellphone, a delayed flight, a flood of teasing emails that kept me expecting to attend until...well, until I realized I wouldn't be going anywhere. Nothing outside the realm of possibility, but always just on the edge of *probability*, where I felt churlish to suspect him of lying.
So a narrow escape, all things considered---although the Date With A Jerk might have been another worthy addition to my dating repertoire. In the meantime, I take solace in filing him under Soon-to-be-Fired (my mom's tag, as she works for the same company as he does and expects his true colors to terminate his career without any interference on her part), Medieval Dickweed (Hermione and Bill and Ted's tag), Moron (Rose Red's tag), and Trivial (my dad's tag).
Consummately organized librarian though I am, I feel certain he'll soon be lost beyond retrieval in my own filing system.
