Last spring, I copied all my book data from Goodreads to a couple other book websites, and as I have with Dreamwidth, I'm finding the slower-paced Web 2.0 vibe of LibraryThing, in particular, very inviting. The social elements of the site are calm and companionable, and one of their most enjoyable offerings is their monthly list, where they invite users to vote on their favorite titles in a particular category.
This month's category is best first lines, so Sev and I have spent the afternoon alternating between preparing quizzes and hunting through my small library for compelling first lines. It's surprisingly difficult to decide whether a first line is really good on its own merits or if we just think that because the first line is so well known or does such a good job summing up the story to come.
In any event, we're not here for first lines, we're here for quizzes. The parchments please, Sev! ::crisp flaps of paper:: Oooh, charmed to be birds this time! ( So elegant! )
