Freakin' A. Someone bought our house.

::peering suspiciously at possible house-buying lurkers::

Regarding the "inhibit" v. "prohibit" query, I have managed---with my impeccable research skills and beloved dictionary---to get to the etymological root of things. (Am *such* a geek!)

inhibit ---> Middle English inhibiten, to forbid > Latin inhibere, to restrain, forbid : in-, in [see IN-(2)] + habere, to hold [see GHABH-]

prohibit ---> Middle English prohibiten > Latin prohibere : pro-, in front [see PRO-(1)] + habere, to hold [see GHABH-]

***

IN-(2) -- in; into; within

PRO-(1) -- 1. acting in the place of; substituting for 2. supporting; favoring

GHABH- -- 4a. ABLE, BINNACLE, HABILE, HABIT, HABITABLE, (HABITANT), (HABITAT); (COHABIT), EXHIBIT, INHABIT, INHIBIT, MALADY, PREBEND, PROHIBIT, (PROVENDER), from Latin habere, to hold, possess, have, handle ( > habitare, to dwell)

Aw, man. Does this mean I can't be the Token Republican? (And how funny is it that, according to this quiz, I equate Democrat, Communism, and Fascism equally?)
