I've survived my booktalk...although I flubbed my lines a few times and, by the end of it, my mouth was so dry it was making sticky sounds as I spoke. :) But it's over, I've triumphed, and I now have yet another Weapon of Librarianship in my quiver. Yay!
To celebrate, I watched the series finale of Stargate SG-1, which was quite fitting as an end episode, in my opinion. (That may, of course, have had something to do with my favorite scene, which---for the time being, anyway---you can view here. I'm such a sap.) After watching the show for...what? five years?...it's so strange to think it won't be part of my life anymore. Strange and sad.
...I'll just have to look forward to the movies. Heehee.
On another note entirely, you may have heard about the unbelievable rain we've been getting in Texas this year. It's been unbelievable by *Irish* standards, and D/FW is supposed to be a near-desert climate. As you can imagine, there's been some flooding. Not usually major or around my family's home, but this past week it's been both.
In front of my family's house is something known as a green belt. It's a pretty little stretch of open grassland bordered by trees along one side and recessed below street level by about fifteen feet or so. There's a paved path among the trees leading to a bridge over a tiny, burbling stream, and beyond the bridge the path eventually winds its way to a park.
These photos were taken of the greenbelt:

As you can see, the green belt is completely flooded. As are several backyards. And the paved path. And the park. And most of the bridge. According to my mother, the tiny, burbling stream became a wild, gleefully raging river. My family stood outside and waved as logs zoomed past.
I so wish I'd been there. Awesome.
