His voice is scratchy and mellow with a richness that allows him to evoke melancholy, joy, tenderness, and anger with equal ease. There are times when I'll put on one of his albums, sit back, and just listen, refusing to be distracted by my books, my computer, or anyone who isn't willing to sink into the music with me.
