pining for the moon
I hate making Halloween costumes. Especially when doing so involves wrangling faux fur that sheds all over everything. By the time I finished shaping my Viking tunic and boot tops, it looked as though I'd skinned a polar bear in my living room. ::shudders:: Give me real fur any day!

Day 29: Some lyrics you love
It is so tempting to post a list of fifteen or more songs with lyrics I love. As much as I enjoy music, I pay a lot of attention to the lyrics of songs. But I'm going to be good and narrow it down to just one:

"Nightswimming" - REM

"Nightswimming deserves a quiet night
I'm not sure all these people understand
It's not like years ago,
The fear of getting caught,
Of recklessness and water
They cannot see me naked
These things, they go away,
Replaced by everyday

Nightswimming, remembering that night
September's coming soon
I'm pining for the moon
And what if there were two
Side by side in orbit
Around the fairest sun?
That bright, tight forever drum
Could not describe nightswimming

You, I thought I knew you
You, I cannot judge
You, I thought you knew me,
This one laughing quietly underneath my breath
Nightswimming"

That isn't the whole song, just the part that touches me. It seems a call back to youth, to the rawness of experience when the world is all-new and exciting in its dangers. Friendships change, the world grows more common, harder, and yet even as we grow older and come to terms with those shifts, memories like these bleed into the present. We remember that wonder, that daring, and that we were once awed and daring, ourselves.
