what keeps you awake
It would have been much more sensible to take a painkiller before I went to sleep last night, but I didn't want to blunt communication from my body when that pain might be trying to tell me something---namely, that maybe I shouldn't go to work today. (I didn't go to work today.) But pain does some seriously peculiar things to one's dreams. Wow. I've been reading a memoir of sorts on hip-hop culture and watching episodes of the '90s television show ReBoot, and the two of those made for a bizarre dream combination. I think I was trying to upload Sprites and Binomes of various degrees of Blackness into the Games in order to save them from a System Crash and their own tendency to self-destruct....
Even with the weird dreams, though, I slept about 14 hours, all told. I'm feeling much better, if slightly groggy...and drunk on the caffeine from my one cup of coffee. Sev has been amusing himself by posing absurd questions, which I then answer without any type of mental filter at all. I'm doing a bit better when it comes to writing---or perhaps the caffeine is starting to wear off---so the quizzes should be fairly safe.
But can I code them correctly? That *is* the question!

Which ReBoot Character Are You Most Like?
AndrAIa seems a good fit---especially since she tends to ReBoot as a blonde biker chick. :) I can rock leather pants....
I love this result. Particularly the bit about "worldly knowledge unfolding in the convenient multiple-choice format." That is rather a delusion---or, at least, it's only revealing one tiny facet of the world or the Self. But I do love uncovering those facets. And more than that, I love seeing the pattern of the results across my friends and family. It's hardly a true test of psychological validity or reliability, but since I'm comfortable with ambiguity, I enjoy the pondering almost more than the conclusion.
Has anyone read this article: "Chaos Theory: A Unified Theory of Muppet Types"? I've taken other Muppet quizzes in the past and ended up as either Big Bird or Kermit. Kermit's definitely an Order Muppet, but what about Big Bird? He's perpetually six years old, so he has a child's tendency for chaos. Does that make him a true Chaos Muppet?
I'm sure someday soon there will be an actual quiz to determine how one falls on the Muppet Chaos-to-Order spectrum, but in the meantime, I decided I needed a tie breaker of sorts. I could always ask y'all, but lj seems decidedly absent of activity these days. Hence! A quiz! Scooter is, I believe, an Order Muppet. So, it would seem, am I. Now I just need to find a Chaos Muppet to marry...and to do all the driving.

You find that personality tests can be an interesting tool, either for some lighthearted self-discovery or to learn more about the world. You don't overthink your results, which is healthy, but that might be because you do overthink the process of achieving them. Just be sure to remember that what you're observing has a lot more to do with the psyche of the test creator than the actual content of the test, and you'll do fine. It can be easy to get caught up in the exciting delusion of worldly knowledge unfolding in the convenient multiple-choice format, but in the end, it's all subjective opinion. The more objective you try to remain about a personality test, the more you forget what a personality test is. That damn meta is always getting in the way of the facts. |
