testing the wings that we somehow have
Whew! What a day! I'm so used to working from home that the days when I go into the office always feel particularly long. Though I do get more exercise when I go into the office—which I should probably do something about. Sigh.
Since I did get some exercise today, though, I think I'm fully justified in enjoying a libation or two. ::clink of ice cubes against glass:: Thank you, Sev! Even someone with my paltry potions skills could've poured plum wine over ice, but I very much appreciate your preparing it for me. Dare I suggest you join me? ::slosh of liquid:: Excellent! Now we are fully prepared to present today's quizzes!
I probably could carry around a tiny blade without anyone thinking anything of it. That's a look that works for me. And I certainly might come across as closed off: I tend to be watchful for people's expectations and motives when first meeting them. But if I seem to adapt to people and situations swiftly, that is pure fakery. Of course, almost all situations (and people?) are deeply terrifying to me, so I've gotten pretty used to feeling that way and going with it anyhow.
This jibes with my How the World Sees You archetype, which ranks me as prioritizing Innovation (that is, creativity) and what they call Prestige, which is basically doing things to the very best of my capability. The name for that archetype is actually "The Trendsetter," which echoes this result's mention of tastemakers. Never mind that I am neither a trendsetter nor a tastemaker; everything else about both results is pretty accurate. I do believe anything is possible if you just persist in it. I do value creativity and leaving a legacy for the people who come after us. I do have little patience for people who don't value individuality, who won't make space for new ways to solve/see a problem, and who can't put their visions into effective action. (I say this as someone who has never finished any of my novels. Which does, indeed, annoy me, even if that annoyance isn't very effective at changing my behavior.) Let me just pin "The Architect" up next to my "The Trendsetter" result and we'll get a nice little collage started....
It's funny: I tend to think of myself as someone who doesn't like these sorts of romances—and I can definitely think of examples I've hated—but then there's Elizabeth and Darcy (Pride and Prejudice), Jaime and Brienne (A Song of Ice and Fire), Mara and Luke (Star Wars), Emma and Hook (Once Upon a Time), even Rory and Logan (Gilmore Girls), which are some of my all-time favorite 'ships. I think it depends how the enemies are transformed to lovers...and how truly villainous either of the characters are. Jaime is definitely the worst of that lot, and even he has a secret heroic side...and a significant redemption arc in the works.
As for me having an Enemies to Lovers vibe? I can see that, especially the softer sorts of enemy relationships like Elizabeth and Darcy. As I mentioned above, I tend to greet new people with a watchful skepticism until I understand what they expect from me. That can come across as, and sometimes actually is, adversarial. And I do really enjoy being on my mettle. It's fun to spar with someone I like...but it's also fun to spar with someone whose opinion of me is entirely unimportant. And who is that but an enemy? ...Not sure I'd manage the transition to lovers gracefully, but we've already established how inept I am at the whole romance thing.
