We had our closing party for the store tonight. It was fun, seeing everyone---especially since it'll be some few weeks before I see some of them again. They'll be over at the new location and I'll be at the old, boxing up all the books. It was a little bittersweet, too---less so for me than for those who won't be working there these next few weeks, I think---but there was good food, good music, good fun to mitigate that a bit.
And we all got these Best of Show certificates, where each person was awarded for some special talent or position they have in the store---always a kind of inside joke. Mine was "The Jonathan Swift Children's Award," hilarious if you've ever read Swift's "A Modest Proposal." (And if you haven't, go! Read! It's right here!)
Of course, this award leaves me with a difficult decision. Should my cottage be built of ginger bread or balanced on chicken legs?
