long-haired freaky people
I can finally cross something off my list of Things I Want to Do Before I Die. Yes. With much encouragement from [livejournal.com profile] mneme_metis and invaluable assistance from [livejournal.com profile] insanedeity, I have dyed my hair electric blue.

That is, not all of it. Just streaks. But streaks count. Anything that means I go out in public with my hair *blue* for the next six weeks bloody well counts.

The result of this adventure is beyond my ability to succinctly explain, but I suppose I might come close by saying it's made me slightly itchy in my skin. This person I've been for over two decades---that I've seen in mirrors, that others have responded to, that I've pictured when exhorting/chiding/laughing at---is now a bubble off plumb. Not enough to completely change who I am, but definitely enough to make me *feel* different.

What's peculiar, too, is that I rather expected to either hate it or love it, not both at the same time, in swirling, changeable amounts. Some moments I wish it gone, some moments I'm thrilled to know it's there. Lately, as the color has lightened and my hair has adjusted to the dye-dryness (and I've encountered people at the grocery store and coffee shop), there's been a greater dram of the latter in my cup.

Cripes. Everybody should do this. ::grinning:: In omnia paratus, baby.

It's less a matter of "busy" these days---more a matter of not being able to wrest the computer from my siblings' greedy claws. :D And I've had a few days adjusting, too. Sheesh. My hair was *so* dry it just lay there, lank and sad for the first few days. It's much happier now, though, and lookin' good, I think. The ends and some of the front streaks are going silvery blue. But I think that blends rather well with my hair, so I'm likin' it.

Whole hog? Eek. I think it'll be when I'm forty, my hair is short, and I don't have a job to worry about. ::mumbling::stupidjobs::mumbling:: But I wouldn't be averse to doing a strawberry blonde sometime in the near future. After the blue is gone.

Ha. I love this! (Love your icon, too, Czarina....)

I'm definitely gonna have to check him out, then. ::shaking head:: For the past couple years now, I feel as though I've finally discovered art. As though it's been in the background forever without my really paying attention. Or, at least, without my deciding what I'm drawn to and what I'm repelled by. For instance, I discovered much to my surprise last year that I adore Vermeer. (one of my favorite paintings is here (http://essentialvermeer.20m.com/catalogue_xl/xl_girl_reading_a_letter_by_an_open_window.htm)) Any other artists you recommend I take a look at?

Hee hee! ::with eyes glinting gleefully:: Hee hee!

I'm glad to hear things are working out for the most part. I admit I was a little nervous about your reaction too. We need to get together so I can get a look at the blueness in the daylight and get a picture for posterity. What have other people thought about it?

Yes, picture is good. Before the really bright stuff fades entirely away. (It's goin' *fast*, man!) As for what others have said? Hmmm...I was in a Naperville grocery store and Starbucks yesterday. The produce guy didn't say anything---neither did the barista guy---but both of their eyes kept drifting up from meeting my gaze. And I'm sure my usual manner was rather at odds with the bright, blue-streaky hair. Took me 'til I was leaving to remember my hair was blue at all, actually. ;)

Today, though, when I went to the library, the librarian said, "Nice hair color!" to which I replied, "Oh! *Thank* you!" She was very sincere, even though many school children and library patrons were bloody *staring* at me. Heehee. And at the local grocery store, the checkout woman chided me for not dying my hair green, in honor of Saint Patrick's Day (which I don't celebrate if I can help it...too much time in Ireland, man).

I am definitely enjoying this. Can't wait for church come Sunday.

And you, сестра? How's the hair doin'? ::waggling eyebrows::
