huh?
So, I stumbled on this word recently: crepuscular. Does anyone know what that means? No? Well, guess. Go on. Guess. Say it aloud, let it fumble off your tongue. What could a word like "crepuscular" possibly mean? To me, it sounds like some sort of exotic and highly disgusting skin disease. Cre-PUS-cu-lar. Eeew. Insert funny scrunched-up face here.

But no. Looked it up. Crepuscular means... ::clearing throat:: ..."of or like twilight; dim." Whose bloody idea *was* that? It's...it's just...*wrong*. You don't pair a word that sounds so awful with a meaning that's so...utterly...poetic.

Why can't all words be like lambent? Now there's a word with a suitable definition. Just lovely.

And, yes, I do know I'm psycho....

I would never have guessed the meaning. While I did think of lenses or light when I saw it, mainly because the -cular reminded me of ocular, I agree that it doesn't seem to fit with it's description, though I don't find it quite as icky as you. :)
