SWF seeks grad school program....
'S been a while, huh? Not much going on here, I'm afraid. Just work, more work, and research into grad schools. Blah. But, after much toil, I come to report the five schools to which I am thinking of applying:

Southern Conneticut State University (New Haven, like Yale!)
University of Maryland (like Scully!)
University of Southern Mississippi (look, I can spell it)
Kent State University ('cuz no GS app process is complete without Ohio)
University of South Carolina (sultry!)

I still have to look into tuition, cost of living, financial aid, and overall school atmosphere/location, but these schools at least seem to offer something good by way of children's/young adult library programs. And now I've gotten this far, I can also start to think about my "personal statement." Nothing quite like trying to describe oneself in 300 words or less. I wonder if "likes tequila and tropical sunsets" would help them decide in my favor?

And 'cuz I needed a break. And Sev wanted some tequila one too....

The funny thing is that changing *one* answer (the bungee jump one) shifted my answer to this:

Well, tequila and sunsets would make me decide in your favor. Unfortunately, I'm not on the admissions board for any of those schools. Actually, I'm not on the admissions board for any school. But since you're an awesome writer, I know you'll come up with an elegant personal statement.

Have you made any more progress toward a school? I'm curious as to who the front runners are.

::clearing throat::

Now that some of the preliminary research has been completed, the results are as follows:

Southern Conneticut State University has been dropped from the running due to the undeniable "urban blight" that has apparently taken over poor New Haven, CT. Who wants to spend grad school in a pit of a city? Yuck.

University of South Carolina and University of Maryland are the top runners. Both have excellent programs with lots of opportunities to pursue my chosen specialty, and they also both offer scholarships, assistantships, and even fellowships. Kent State University would probably be my next choice, but I'm not thrilled about it. And University of Southern Mississippi is only a back-up. No real scholarships, etc. available. Or, if there are, it's *impossible* to find info on it at their website.

Of course, deciding this has brought me no closer to writing my personal statement(s)....

Oh, well. ;)
