"this is a test...."
They've installed a new emergency broadcast system on campus recently, and this afternoon was the test. Apparently, whenever there's an emergency, we get to hear a rooster crowing. Or a bugle charge. Of course, this might just be the way they test the system, but I'm kind of liking the idea of being urged to shelter by a rooster or a bugle rather than a siren.

Re: two-fold question and comment
Last post's title line is nothing quoted, as far as I know, but it *is* a reference to that episode of Star Trek: the Next Generation where no one could get any REM sleep. I don't remember all of it, but I do remember Dr. Crusher telling someone that without REM sleep, our brains can't recharge themselves and we slowly go insane. No dreams=No sanity. :)

And thank you soooo much for the info on Sword and Sorceress. I'm actually writing a fantasy story for one of my classes---as an example of the fantasy genre---and now I'm going to see if maybe it's also suitable for submission. Sigh. It'd be nice to whack my writing somewhere nice and visible....and published. No ideas yet, but we'll see what I can do. :D

Re: two-fold question and comment
Yay For Whackage! What you need is a fanfic esque stalker. But I digress, keep writing.

I do remember the ep you speak of though if I remember correctly only the people being kidnapped were REM deprived. But it is perfectly true as evinced by space program research into extreme forms of sleep deprivation

Yay, ST:TNG! Ahead of its own space-time! :) And you may very well be right about who couldn't dream. It's been so long.... A stalker, though? Hmm...d'you suppose they'd be carrying pointy sticks, a la X-Files fanfic stalkers? ::poke, poke::

Oh, yes! Chocolate covered Mulders or Scullys, depending on your preference. :) Sometimes with a cherry on top. I love the X-phile community....
