my nine-year-old self remains
I'm in a peculiar mood tonight. I want to write letters and sign them with a false name. I want to invent a memoir, act an outlaw or a timid debutante, remember pieces of a past life as Cleopatra. In short, I want to play pretend and wander into a world unreal but tangible, rich with detail for this other momentary-me. Failing that, I want daylight again and a shadowy spruce plot or a bee-buzzing garden or a crab apple orchard snowy with blossom in which to wander. I want my friends at recess, pretending with me, the game as real to them as it is to me.

If I am Maid Marian, who are you? And what if we are Muses? Or Valkyries? And are we dragons or the knights who challenge them? Am I a doctor selling snake oil in the Wild West? An astronaut or an android? And if we pass beneath this bow of crab apple blooms, do we shimmer into another world?

I hope so.

Gimp is free...and it offers some of the same effects as photoshop, from what I've heard, but in rather different functions. But if you have photoshop, you might want to take a look at some of the photoshop tutorial communities on lj. There are lots. As for the .gif...do you mean an animated .gif? Because I think to make a regular .gif, you just save it in that format. The animated .gif is a little more complicated. I've never made one, but I wouldn't mind finding out how to do it. :)

ok, I'm downloading a free trial of Fireworks, as I know nothing about compiling a program in order to make GIMP work. I will keep you posted

Compiling a program? I just had to download the thing. Is it different now? As for Fireworks, my Fireworks is ancient (version 4), so I'm not sure if my knowledge will carry you all that far. :? I'll do my best, though.

What kind of an icon are you going for? A text-only icon? Text over image? Animated? How long of a quote do you want?

Cuz...I like:

"that, with it, Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits"
"[dramatic chord]"
"And the Lord did grin"
"then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it."

and, of course, the whole:
"One!...Two!...Five!"
"Three, sir!"
"Three!"
(which never fails to make me giggle)

I agree with your exctracts. the one I am working on in a screen shot of the HHG of Antioch lifted over some one's head. it is from the Video Game, so decent quality image, and accurate to the movie. I have it tightly cropped to the HHG with the hands on it visible in the hugging the bottom left corner, I have some space top left. Not a lot though. I like

"being naughty in my sight"
And the first I extracting and have stuck on it, is
"Three, sir."
"Three!"

I now like the idea of trying an animated (if the forum will support it.) of the One, two, five sequence. Each line with it's own panel.

I like your "and the lord did grin" I didn't look at it at all but am grooving on it. And the tiny bits line will always be priceless.
