sunny but wet
Sev is pouring us a couple of fingers of tequila to toast Kenny Rankin's memory, so once again it's just me here to gather all the parchment bits together. I was at least a little better prepared today, if rather more busy. Work, work, pineapple upside-down cake, work, vacuuming, and then---at last!---quizzes.

You are Mixolydian Mode

Mixolydian Mode. The darkest of the Major Modes. Characterized by the lowered 7th scale degree.

Your general outlook on life is positive. You see the good in the world and in people, and you cling to the hope that in the end the good will prevail, whatever that means. You feel like in any given situation, the best answer is to just have a good time. You don't like people who take things too seriously. Despite your fun-loving demeanor, you have an introspective side. You have strong opinions but don't particularly like getting into arguments.

Which Musical Mode Are You?

Well, *I* take things too seriously, but other than that, this seems about right. Especially the bit about opinions and arguments.

The funny thing is that, yes, while I do know of a few movies that others might not be familiar with, most of the movies on my shelves are musicals, period romances, fantasy epics, or action flicks. So I'm kinda mainstream.

Time Slip

This type of haunting is most usually seen as sounds and transparent shadows. This has been documented for many years. What may be occurring is actually from the past - another time in life slipping into our time. The ingredients for this to happen are, in large proportion, yet to be discovered.

What Type of Ghost Are You?

Ooh. A Time-Ghost. ::nods:: I like it. (And I apologize in advance: this quiz doesn't come with pictures...but if you post your result, I'll find an image for you.)

The movie quiz link and pic doesn't show up - or, at least, not for me.

I don't consider my movie collection to be arty and only somewhat independent. But there really weren't any questions/answers that would have led in a sci-fi/fantasy direction. I think the only movie I own that's not science fiction or fantasy is Shag (a movie set in Myrtle Beach area about dancing shagging). Then again, I don't have a very extensive collection to begin with. Anyway - here's my results...

Oh, you arty, independent thing.

Your movie collection is a true "collection" -- you've searched far and wide to find some of this stuff. Some people sing along with the radio when they're stuck in traffic, but you prefer to spend that time holding a fake conversation with the dude on your "learn Japanese" CD. You're planning to hang out with the locals on your future travels. Or maybe even on trips you've already made, like one of those movies where life happens in the wrong order. One request: if you invent a time travel machine to make life more like an indie film, please let us borrow it for just one hour. We're dying to go back in time and make out with a young Johnny Depp.

That's a really good point: the questions seemed to target humor, action, independent, and romance/tragedy genres, but skip over the scifi/fantasy films entirely. Hmm. My movies, if they really could say something about me, would probably say it in Elvish. :)

I know nothing about music. So, I took this quiz on a complete lark, because I have no notion of what a mode is, much less what it sounds like. Yes yes, I know I could Google it, but eh....

Aeolian Mode. Or just plain old Minor. All the "white keys" starting on A, and you've got a minor scale.

You have a dark sense of humor. You like to keep to yourself, finding social interaction rather difficult and draining, perhaps even boring. Sometimes you feel like life is a real drag, and question why you even bother. How depressing, dude. In truth, the thing that keeps you going is the vague notion and hope in a little thing called Love. You are a hopeless romantic. You often stare out the window and daydream, most likely about that special someone that you wish you were good enough for. Yes, love really does make the world go round, and it's not all rainbows and sunny meadows. That's not real love. Love is a brutal, gut-wrenching affair. You probably have some sort of creative talent, which is good. If you didn't have an outlet for all your emotions you'd probably lose your mind.

---------------

Residual Haunter

Residual Haunters are often considered a photo in time or leftover energy from the past. some type of horrific landmark in time playing itself over and over in a certain location,( i.e. battlegrounds ). Some see apparitions, some feel energies, and some hear sounds. There have been some theories that limestone deposits have some effect on residual hauntings, as they have been found near active sites and limestone can hold electromagnetic charges. You are a residual haunter.

I know nothing of music, either, which is probably at least partially why the quiz appealed to me. But I like that you're minor key. :) And as for the residual haunter, here's your image:

I'm not sure why, but this felt like a residual haunter sort of fractal.

Oh, and I just found some fun wikipedia info on songs in the Mixolydian mode. I've got "Dear Prudence" and "Norwegian Wood" by the Beatles, the Star Trek: TNG theme, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot, and "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. That explains so much about my lifelong preferences. :D

For you, there are apparently too many musical works to count that use the Aeolian mode, but they did say that it can be found in Jewish/Israeli folk music, "The Ants Go Marching One by One," and the guitar solo in Led Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand." Does any of that resonate?

I think I prefer the Mixolydian mode! :) I at least recognize the songs.

That said, I do enjoy a good round of "The Ants Go Marching." (In between the preceding "." and the following "A" I have spend at least 20 minutes searching "aeolian mode' on youtube. There's not much there beyond guitar lessons. I did find this and it's nice.) Assuming this is an accurate example of Aeolian Mode, then I do like it.

Here's a guy who's got good examples of all the modes (so I could actually tell what the difference is!).

Aeolian: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8HcEx1C5h0

I like them both. :)

I do too. And I've learned so much just by taking one quiz...and hunting down a whole bunch of information on my result. :) As for the fractals, I did know that you make them occasionally---I actually really like a lot of your fractals. As for these, though, I grabbed them from a couple of techrepublic articles: Time Slip Fractal article (http://content.techrepublic.com.com/2346-10877_11-94340.html) and Residual Haunter Fractal article (http://techrepublic.com.com/2346-10878_11-33277.html). The fractals all seem to be by the same fellow, and I think they were actually made using Apophysis.

Pretty fractal. Where'd you find it? Did you know that, occasionally, I play around and make fractals? Yay for Apophysis.

This is pretty cool.

Your result for Which musical mode are you?...

You are Dorian Mode

Dorian Mode. It's cool. It's hip. It's jazzy. The lightest of the minor modes, characterized by a raised 6th scale degree.

You tend to be a bit of a cynic, and perhaps a bit of an intellectual snob. You have a small group of friends, all of whom admire you, but you have a hard time opening up to people you don't know. People will tell you that you're hard to figure out. It's probably becasue you keep your emotions hidden from almost everyone.

Take Which musical mode are you?
at HelloQuizzy

Apparently my half completed movie quiz, I skipped questions about movies I didn't own, says, "I'm so silly."

You are a gross ghost, you are always mucking out and getting messy
So undignified. Personally, I think I'd be bound by a task, or a straight up poltergeist.

Dorian Mode suits you, I think, but I can't tell what ghost you got. Not a poltergeist, I gather, but I'm not sure what the other options are.

Literally a "Gross Ghost". I am not in agreement with it though. I wanted to be some kind of ghost guide.

And I must say I am all for Dorian Mode Wikipedia gave me Along Comes Mary, Elanor Rigby (about the only beatles song I really like) and Scarborough Fair. How awesome.

Funky. I went back to the ghost quiz to see if I could get a little more description in order to get you your picture, but I couldn't get it to give me a "Gross Ghost" result. I got Residual Haunter, Parasitic Entity, Time Slip, Crisis Apparition, and Apparition of the Dead. And in the quiz description, it says there are only 5 possible answers, so it seems I got them all. I wonder how you got "Gross Ghost."

And I love all the Dorian Mode songs you've listed, including Eleanor Rigby (which is, I agree, one of the few Beatles songs I enjoy. :D)

I like some Beatles songs, but they're just a little too..."in" maybe? Or twee? I don't know. I've just never classed myself as a Beatles fan.
