and come to know so well
I thought about postponing this, but with all the craziness lately---Hermione's graduation, my parents' wedding anniversary, my dad's memorial, Elessar's birthday and graduation, Hermione's upcoming wedding---I wanted a little normality. And what is more normal than the Week of the Killer Quizzes?

Sev has promised to assist me when I'm busy with wedding stuff, but I can't promise that he won't be posting very early or very late each day. He's unpredictable like that. ::longsuffering sigh:: What? You *are*, Sev....

Anyway: in honor of my dad, today's quizzes represent different facets of his interests and life. Take it away, Sev!

M9

You are the foundation of your country. You are the one who does all of the work while others take the credit. People don't appreciate you as much as they should, but you don't care because you're doing what's right. You work hard and are very efficient at what you do.
What Gun Would You Be?

That's right: the foundation of my country. And this result explains so much about my work situation. Still, I don't know much about the M9 in general. Perhaps I shall ask Elessar to elaborate....

Which philosopher are you?
Your Result: Plato (strict rationalists)

There is a transcendent, absolute truth. We can get to this truth by pure reason, in the form of dialectic. Everyone wants truth. Truth is virtue, is happiness. Your philosophy might boil down to: You are right and those who disagree with you are wrong.

(Note that there are many different conflicting interpretations of Plato's writings.)

--This quiz was made by S. A-Lerer.

Immanuel Kant

Aristotle

Early Wittgenstein / Positivists

Sartre/Camus (late existentialists)

W.v.O. Quine / Late Wittgenstein

Nietzsche

Which philosopher are you?
Quiz Created on GoToQuiz

I do like Truth, I have to admit. But I'm delighted to see Kant and Early Wittgenstein up there, too. Not entirely sure how Aristotle got in there---except that he wriggles into everything.

Lipizzaner

Hard-working and desperate to please, Lipizzaners are all about discipline and success. Intelligent and organised, they are always in control. Just remember take some time out to relax every once in a while.
What Breed of Horse Are You?

I'm sensing a trend here: disciplined, hard-working...and now intelligent and organized, as well. It definitely does sound as though I need to relax. Maybe after Hermione's wedding---and the bride's never ending, last minute I-have-to-do-all-that-stuff-too?! drama. Oy.

Quiz #1: What kind of gun am I?
It said I'm an M16/M4 - plain and nothing special. (I accidentally closed the window before copy and pasting.) I did not like this result at all.
*sigh/whine* I'm a special little flower. I know I am. ;)

Quiz #2: Which philosopher am I?
Sartre/Camus (late existentialists)
The world is absurd. No facts govern it. We live well once we truly accept the world's absurdity. YOU give our life's meaning, and YOU control your world. (see Nietzsche for very closely tied beliefs)
My other results were:
W.v.O. Quine / Late Wittgenstein (more than half the bar was red)
Kant (just above half)
Nietzsche (just above half)
Aristotle (about half)
Early Wittgenstein / Positivists (about 1/3)
Plato (strict rationalists) (just a smidgen)
(Now I want to read some Sartre!)

Quiz #3: What breed of horse am I?
Lipizzaner
Hard-working and desperate to please, Lipizzaners are all about discipline and success. Intelligent and organized, they are always in control. Just remember take some time out to relax every once in a while.

I got to see some Lipizzaners perform in Chicago once when I was young. I'd say 'simply magnificent' except that there's nothing 'simple' about them. So much elegance, poise, and control on the part of the horses. And they are gorgeous.

I'd heard something about there being a Lipizzaner training facility outside of Chicago...not sure if it's still there, but what a nifty notion. I hope someday I'll get to see them. As for your gun result...well, I think the Lipizzaner result neatly contradicts your supposed ordinariness. ::nods::

As for Sartre, I've always wanted to read him. We didn't get much into the existentialists in any of my philosophy classes and so I know just enough about them to crack jokes that may or may not be funny. Love Wittgenstein, though---early, late...it doesn't matter. :)

As far as I remember (and I was probably 13 at the time, so memory may be faulty), the true Lipizzaner horses never leave Europe. The ones that travel are the ones that didn't quite make the cut - still INCREDIBLE athletes and dancers, but just a smidge below perfection. Things like a hoof that's the wrong color or a slightly off-color coat or a gait that's a hair off true. Still, that was one of the most incredible pieces of showmanship and beauty I've ever seen. Truly, the people on the backs of the horses were almost superfluous.

I should read more philosophy. Haven't read hardly any. Shall be rectified one day. :)

Wow! I'll definitely have to look for an opportunity to see them. That sounds remarkable. And philosophy's some fun reading---often tough reading, as well, but the ideas are so worth the work. Of course, I say that, but I don't think I've picked up a serious philosophical work since completing my minor in undergraduate school. ;) Mayhap we can both start with Sartre?

A two-person book club reading Sartre! Hey - it'd probably be more interesting and we'd probably actually do it if we did it together!

That sounds excellent! Now I just have to finish reading all the books that I checked out from the library and have been too distracted to read lately.

Hmmm. I'm beginning to see why I never seem to get around to the philosophy....

When I read the result of which gun you were, I immediately thought of your work situation too. It really does fit that situation, or least what I've heard of it.

We were pretty different on the philosophers, which I found intriguing. I definitely have to learn a little more about philosophy.

And I'm sending you lots of mental hugs!

Thanks, сестра. ::hugs back:: And I shall shortly journey to your lj to comment...I hope. Time holds distinctly different meaning these days. I think Hermione's wedding stretched it out and it has yet to fully recover.... :)
