for lissa
I did manage to avoid being trampled by Sev when I offered him Giant Pygmy Tufted Bluejay Griffin feathers, but it was a near thing. I'm not even sure whether his potions were at a stopping point, but one moment he was in the dungeons and the next he was in front of me, panting in a way I'm sure will embarrass him when he thinks back on it in a few weeks. Needless to say, convincing him to help me with a Day of the Killer Quizzes for Lissa was the work of a moment...though I do really believe part of the reason for that is that he admires you tremendously.

In any case, it took a little longer than either of us had anticipated to get these together for you: one of the parchments kept spontaneously bursting into flames and then setting all the other parchments aflame. Sev had to enchant a quill to duplicate the results on another scroll, and after that same bit of parchment insisted on exploding over and over, we decided another quiz might be in order.

Still, we are very sorry for the delay and hope the wait will be worth it. Shall we, Sev? ::glubbing and splash of liquid into glasses:: Ah, wine...excellent idea. Lissa first, I think, Sev. ::slide of glass on ceramic and muttering:: Uh...Lissa, I'm not sure exactly what he just said---some of it seemed to be in languages I've never heard before---but I'm pretty sure he just leveled a few creative curses in the direction of the store leaseholders. So while we're enjoying our wine and quizzes, we can hope that important pieces of their anatomy are shriveling up and/or falling off. ::dark cackling and crackle of parchment:: Indeed. To the quizzes....

You Are Brilliant

You are a true ideas person. No concept is too far out for you. You are constantly looking to improve yourself. You don't think you have all the answers. Art excites you. You try to bring it into your everyday life as much as possible. You have a few key interests that are borderline obsessions. You can't stop thinking about them!
The Bookstore Test

...So this is what my bookstore habits say about me, hmm? Not too far off. I especially love the bit about borderline obsessions---that's definitely how I'm starting to feel about my preoccupation with Arrow.

Desert Dragon

You like to have a family but not a clan. You mate for life. You find humans very amusing and like to play tricks on them. When it comes to battle, you are one of the strongest with your electric breath. You are a great protector, especially with hatchlings, and are as fast as thunder. You can be very stubborn and, a lot of the time, confusing. You love your territory, but if the only way to protect your family is to leave, you will do so.
What Type of Dragon Are You?

Yes! Desert Dragon! I would so love being the sort of dragon that protects her own and messes with humans and has thunder and lightning at her command. Awesome! ...Even if I *am* confusing. (Also, the above art is desert dragon alt by unded.)

Gentleman Lord Hero

The Gentleman Lord Hero is a man of good breeding, manners, and speech. He's easily bored and so always in search of something to take up his time and is not above seeking out any woman with whom to while away the hours. If you're patient and willing to keep him stimulated in thoughts and activities, you will find a man most willing to stay happily at home and while away his time with you.
Which Hero Is Your Best Match?

Well that's...ominous. Not that I disagree, mind you: I've suspected for some time now that my ideal man is a CEO-type, creative and commanding and extremely capable, but also prone to boredom and arrogance and, well, sociopathy. Which might explain my difficulty in finding someone with more of the good bits and fewer of the bad. :D Still, shouldn't a romance novel hero be a bit more pleasant?

Leto Atreides II

You are willing to sacrifice everything for the ones you love, you are determined, strong, a leader, and you are happy to see those around you in a world where they can shape their own destiny.
Which Dune Character Are You?

"They spoke to you of Desert Power. Well, I AM Desert Power!" Yeah! Not only a desert dragon, but Desert Power. I'm not entirely sure I'd really be Leto II, but since this is the role responsible for my love of James McAvoy, I'll take it! (Also, Lissa, this and the next quiz kinda play into one of my most vivid memories of working with you at B&N...can you guess?)

Pandemic

You are most suited for a Pandemic. A sickness that wipes out almost all of humankind, a Pandemic would put an end to humankind as we know it. You would have to avoid all other humans for years out of fear of infection, and even the wilds would only be mildly safe.
What Type of Apocalypse Are You Most Suited For?

Sounds awesome...but I could definitely handle the alone time, and it would be kinda cool to learn how to move through the wilds as undetected as possible. ...And there's my optimism turning a pandemic into an opportunity for developing nifty skills. Ha. (Have you guessed, Lissa? Let me know if I should tell you....)

And there you have it: some quizzes related to bookstores and favorite types of books and memories of Barnes & Noble. I know these won't make up for the loss, but Sev and I hope they offer a fun distraction, however short. We're thinking of you....

You're welcome you're welcome you're welcome you're welcome! :D (And I am very impressed at all those thank yous typed without copy and paste!) And please, feel free to awkward-emotional-outburst at any time. ...Sev is glaring at me, but I swear that's because every time he tries to return your bow, I keep talking. Sorry, Sev. Do your thing.... ::graceful, flourishing bow:: Wow...that was...really lovely....

Apparently, I, too, am brilliant. :) Art does excite me. Both seeing others' art (Sev's potions, your writing) as well as making my own. And searching for answers is most of the fun of life. Universal answers as much as personal answers. Borderline obsession is so true, though. Between Harry Potter fanfic (sorry, Sev....you probably don't want to know about the one I'm reading right now) and photography, I'm covered in the obsession department.

(It's cool: I think Sev was too busy preening over your potions-as-art comment to hear the bit about HP fanfic. ::snickers::) And yay for brilliant! ...Not that I am at all surprised: we are clearly the sort of people bookstores were built for---curious, artistic and creative, interested in applying what we learn, obsessive...you know, just generally awesome. ;)

That's us: generally awesome. I'm good with that.

(Don't let Sev see this part.... it may be traumatic for him... The fanfic was about Hermione and Severus - how when Nagini bit him, he died, but not really, because he'd managed to create a horcrux and then there was a time turner involved and he ended up in ancient Pompeii but no one knew that because he was dead and eleven years later, Hermione had become an archeologist and was digging in the ruins of Pompeii and fell through a portrait onto Severus just days before Vesuvius was to blow....)

(I think he's still muttering into his wine about the feathers, so we should be safe. I *love* a good Snape/Hermione fic! What's the one you're reading called? And have you read any of bambu (http://ashwinder.sycophanthex.com/viewuser.php?uid=380)'s fic? She's been in the fandom a long time, so you've probably encountered her, but she was one of the reasons I fell in love with HG/SS fic.

...Also, Sev doesn't like to talk about it, so I can't be sure, but I think of all his potential romantic partners in HP fanfic, he's most pleased with Hermione. I think he feels as though he ought to keep pining after Lily, but after living most of his life without her, reading Snape/Lily fic feels a little like losing all the parts of himself for which he's fought the hardest.

...I do like to tease him about Snape/Luna fic, though: he gets this nauseated look on his face and just growls...he can't even muster something cutting to say. I suspect that's because she's too much like me. :D)

Desert Dragon it is. Trickery is fun and I am fiercely loyal and protective of the ones I love. Stubborn, for sure. I have my home base, but I do enjoy exploring. And control of lightning... yusss.

Oh, I so like the image of you combining trickery and lightning. In fact, I would probably herd humans your way just so I could watch you mess with 'em....

The Swashbuckling Hero is a man of honour yet wildly adventurous yet enjoys a bawdy time with an easy woman as much as a swordfight. But once his heart is stolen, he will defend your honour with sword in hand as quickly as his own. Loyalty is his best quality.

Loyalty is one of the most important qualities for me, in a man. I am incredibly lucky in that department. And bawdy times are gooooood. (I was hoping for 'Scoundrel' or 'Rake' but this result is quite acceptable!)

For the combination of loyalty and bawdy times and adventure, I like this result for you very much indeed. Plus, I think you'll have far more opportunities to drop an evil laugh into conversation whilst living a swashbuckling life than you might, perhaps, with a rake or a scoundrel. Not that rakes and scoundrels don't have other compensations. (She said with a slightly evil laugh....)

You are Chani. You are strong, devoted, but also independent. You also have the desire to look after the ones you love.

Chani 83%
Irulan 75%
Lady Jessica 67%
Leto Atreides II 67%
Ghanima Atreides 67%
Prince Farad'n 58%
Alia Atreides 58%
Baron Harkonnen 50%
Duncan Idaho 50%
Paul Atreides 25%

So true, about the independence. And loyalty. Also, I'm your mom. ;) And, according to Wiki, Paul Atreides often called her by her Fremen name "Sihaya," which means "desert's spring". So, we've got that desert imagery back (not that you didn't already have it, what with it being "DUNE" and all!).

Hi, Mom! ...Sorry I kinda killed you? :D You'd make an excellent Chani, though...even if I'm not quite sure how inclined she is toward the evil laugh. And, yeah, it's Dune, so I suppose the desert stuff isn't a surprise, but I gotta say, I love how we both ended up Fremen. Also, I may or may not occasionally call you Sihaya....

Pandemic it is. I could help with the survival skills. Deep woods for the win. We need to think up a good meeting spot for when the pandemic hits. :)

Do you mean the Bookseller Survivor game? Is that the memory? Tell me! I am most curious...

I *think* I could help with survival skills...at any rate, my immune system seems fairly robust. And yes! Where should we meet? Appalachian mountains? I could grab all the Foxfire guides my library owns and (literally) run for the hills! Only, I think the folks already living there are pretty firmly entrenched.... Hmm. This bears pondering....

As for the memory, it's very silly...and very simple, but I distinctly remember standing next to you whilst you drew this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/anwylyd3/et%20cetera/wormsarmageddon_zps61ea6a66.png). And I still have it. And since you were sharing your artistic B&N ephemera, I wanted to contribute. (And see? Dune=worms. Apocalypse=Armageddon. Yeah, I know....)

I love this memory, but I am kinda sad it wasn't anything to do with a Bookseller Survivor game. I don't think I even know about that, but it sounds awesome!

Oh, WOW! I can't believe you still have that. I remember being absurdly proud of how his hands turned out. It is amazing, the artefacts that we gather and keep close. Crazy little things that have little or no meaning outside of you and, at most, a small handful of others.

As for where to meet up... perhaps the Arkansas/Tennessee border? I know that the mighty Mississippi is there and that'll be a hard hurdle to overcome, but there's water and that's important. I think I'd rather be on the eastern side of the Mississippi, as the weather is a bit wetter and more reliable. I'd had to go through a very long dry spell in Ok or Tx or someplace like that, not to mention the whole tornado alley thing. Once we meet up, we can figure where to go from there. And getting the Foxfire guides is a good start. I have all sorts of animal and plant field guides - including ones for medicinal plants and edible plants. I also have a crossbow and various sharp implements.

Bookseller Survivor was a mental exercise. It may have happened after you left. Ben Ledbetter was a main instigator of it. The chains from the big blinds were a hot commodity, lemme tell ya. :)

His hands *are* adorable...and I love that little artifact. (I've tucked him back into his drawer, safe away from the crushing Texas sunlight.) And I think that's part of the fun of sharing them, that they're only special to a handful of people. And it's kind of remarkable that sometimes we don't even know that others have taken those artifacts (and memories) of us with them into the rest of their lives.

The Arkansas/Tennessee border it is! And, truly, the mighty Mississippi could be just the right sort of hurdle if I need to shake loose of pursuit or OK/TX sickies. I quite agree about the water/moisture/tornado thing, too---not only are there better print resources on how to survive on the eastern side of the Mississippi, there are generally more resources for survival, period: hills, caves, trees, plants, animals for hunting and domestication. And good thinking on the crossbow and sharp implements. I'll have to see if I can bring along any helpful weaponish things...this *is* Texas, after all. ;)

Aw, I think Bookseller Survivor may have been after my time. Damn. ...What were the chains on the big blinds for, exactly?
