Hey, I know I've been a little ghost like on LJ the last bit, but damn. Sounds heavy. I can relate to heavy at the moment. What's all going on? When are you home for X-mas? the three of us should get together. Cheer up. They've been warning us about this all along. Seems they may have been right.
It's a mess brought on by my roommate leaving and the Evil that is graduate housing. Basically, I must find a roommate or move out in the next five days or so. If I must move, I'd rather move into an apartment in the area. But it's possible I'll just move home to Texas and quit the program. Which, considering the trouble I've had with the school, may not be such a bad idea. Sigh.
As for heading home, the plan is to spend Dec 21st-28th with everyone, including my new nephew and family. :) I'll just be glad to have this entire emergency behind me by that point. Urgh.
But you're quite right: they have been warning us about this all along. We're all adult-like now. Sucks. :P
I hate it when they are right. Really burns my butt. So, home for X-mas sounds good. Tentatively I will be here until the 26th of that. I think I am heading to see my Dad then. We should totally get together, I am also a fun holiday break bum as I don't generally work during the week. Keep it in mind. And as to school. Don't drop out. Librarys are cool. even if school is not. Some things we are still right about like how much academia sucks in comparison to most of the planet.
Academia does suck. My dad is fond of saying that a university campus is the closest we get to a communist society in this country. They can do pretty much anything they want to us, but we either can't or won't leave. :) 'Tis settled now, though. ::breathes sigh of relief:: I have a roommate for the spring and can develop an escape plan at my leisure, rather than in a scrambling handful of days. Whew.
I'm sorry to hear that the housing people are being so evil. I think I'm confused about how this works though. Shouldn't they be helping you in finding a new roommate if it's their housing? Since I know how much you hate your current residence, maybe an apt. in the area would be nicer. Of course finding a decent and inexpensive one is probably easier said then done.
Are you seriously thinking about leaving the program? Maybe you could transfer schools.
But I'd love to see you if you have time during your trip. And if you need to talk, don't hesitate to call.
That's exactly what I'd assumed: that they'd find me a roommate, knowing that my own had left. But no. If I want a roommate, I have to request their assistance in finding one. Where that's written or explained, I've no earthly notion. But then, this isn't earth. This is hell.
Fortunately, I'm only visiting. :) And I should be nice and escaped by the end of May...from this apartment, if not the entire university.
