a lady's imagination is very rapid
To take my mind off the lamentable fact that I'm currently being stamped as Queen Elizabeth I at [livejournal.com profile] princesse_stamp---because in what universe am I most like Queen Elizabeth I?!---I've been pondering who I would cast in a production of Pride and Prejudice. As an added challenge, I'm trying to find actors whose ages are as close to the characters' ages as possible.

So far, I'm liking Holliday Grainger for Elizabeth and Carey Mulligan for Jane, but I'm not sure who I'd cast for Darcy...or Lydia. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Vehement objections?

I could see both of them as Jane and Elizabeth, just by going of their looks. Though in some of her photos, Carey Mulligan looks pretty young. I guess it's all a matter of makeup, etc. or maybe those were taken awhile ago. I'm curious to see who you pick for the rest. I wish I had more knowledge to help you out. :)

I wish I had more knowledge to help me out, too. :) I watch enough period dramas that I ought to be able to come up with a good-sized cast, but the age restriction makes things a bit complicated. For instance, I think Ed Westwick (http://www.google.com/search?q=ed+westwick) would make a really good Darcy or Wickham, but he's only old enough to be a Bingley. And the only person I know of who's young enough to be Lydia is Rachel Hurd-Wood (http://www.google.com/search?q=rachel+hurd-wood), and I haven't seen her act, so I have no idea if she'd be a good Lydia or not. I suppose I could always drop the restriction...but where's the fun in that? ;)

The chick who plays Sally Sparrow in the Doctor Who episode Blink, Carey Mulligan is awesome. She was also good in the the BBC Bleak House from 2-3 yrs ago. Which I caught a section of I hadn't seen. She soo good. I really like Geraldine Sommervile. She plays Lily Potter in the movies, but she was great as Daphne DuMaurier in a bio pic about her.

I loved Carey Mulligan in Bleak House! And she was Kitty in the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice, but I think I was so transfixed by Keira Knightley's histrionic version of Elizabeth Bennet that I didn't really pay very close attention to Mulligan's performance. But I think she deserves a chance at someone more engaging than Kitty.

I haven't seen Geraldine Sommerville in anything but the Harry Potter films, but her imdb page says she's 42 or so years old. So she'd have to be either Mrs Bennet or Lady Catherine de Bourgh. She's a little young to be Lady Catherine, but she might better fit a grand dame character than a hen-witted matchmaker. What do you think?

And would Felicity Jones (http://www.google.com/search?q=felicity+jones) make a good Caroline Bingley, I wonder?

Ooo, I like Ed Westwick as Wickham. I've only seen him portray a Wickham like character so I know he'd be good at it. Plus his last name has "wick" in it!
Surprisingly I've actually seen something with Hurd-Wood in it, but I don't remember it well enough and she was young. I think she could pull off Lydia now that she looks a bit older.
I think Sommerville seems too young and pretty to be Lady Catherine. Though since I've only seen her in the Harry Potter movies, I don't know if she can do hen-witted (I love that!) What about as Mrs Gardiner? I actually don't know the ages of most of the characters so I don't know if she's too old for that spot.

I forgot about Mrs Gardiner! :) The general theory on the Gardiners, I believe, is that Mr Gardiner is Mrs Bennet's younger brother, and that he married younger than himself, which would put Mrs Gardiner in her early 30s. (I know that was a big frustration of the A&E version: Mrs Gardiner looks much older.) So Sommerville might be a little too old for the role, but if we're compromising on Ed Westwick being Wickham---and I think we should!---I don't see why we couldn't compromise on Sommerville being Mrs Gardiner, especially since I think she'd be excellent in that role.

As for Hurd-Wood, perhaps she'd make a better Georgiana? I think I'll have to watch her in a role before I can decide which character she fits better with. And for Darcy...I have *no* idea. He's probably the hardest to cast of everyone.

Darcy is the hardest role. I have no idea who would be good for him either.
I did think of Stephan Fry for maybe Mr. Bennet? (I've been watching too much Bones I think, but I like him in general)

Stephen Fry would be an amazing Mr Bennet! He does that drawling sort of sarcasm so, so well. Yay! As for watching too much Bones, how can you help it?! The season is so good so far. And have you seen any of the deleted scenes from last season (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eQz2iTfuFE)? Wonderful.... :D

Yeah, it's that dryness that he seems to pull off so well but at the same time he can seem really kind. I hope they have him in more episodes.

And I hadn't seen it! I wish they'd been able to keep it in the episode. I especially thought it was cool as I'm vegetarian and love properly prepared tofu so I like thinking that Brennen and Booth might eat it.

This season is good. They are so excellent at giving something big but then reigning it back in so that the resolution keeps getting extended. It's a bit frustrating but fun too.

I think it helps that they allow so much tenderness into the relationship, too. The whole team cares so much for one another, anyway, that the writers, actors, producers don't shy away from allowing Booth and Brennan to show that as well. They touch one another, tease but still respect each other, take care of one another, share takeout, etc. And seeing those moments makes up for the fact that they're not officially involved. Yet. ;) I can't tell you how downhearted I get when I think characters on a show should just bloody well hug, already, and they won't!

Can I start casting the zombie rolls? Also, I will always vote for Maggie Smith. Always. Forever.

Hee hee hee, undead buns.
Perhaps Maggie Smith could be Lady Catherine. I kind of wish she'd been turned into a zombie at the end. Alas.

She'd make an excellent Lady Catherine. But then, she's an excellent anything....
