Day 04: A genre you hate
Pop opera, aka operatic pop. I wish I had a nice, tidy explanation why this is so, but I'm really not sure why I dislike it so much. It may have something to do with those voices singing those songs---I'd much prefer operatic voices to sing opera and balladier voices to sing ballads. Or it could be that they're so schmaltzy and saccharine...except I love an embarrassing number of sappy songs. Or maybe it's that so many of them are power ballads? Only I do enjoy the occasional power ballad. Perhaps it's the combination of these things: maybe together they hit a spot on my psyche that results in knee-jerk revulsion.
